When all of the elements comprising an invention are found in the prior art, that invention is anticipated by the prior art. Anticipated inventions cannot be patented because they are not truly new.

Cross-Licensing of Patents

Cross-licensing occurs when businesses enter into licensing agreements to license each other’s patent rights, in order to use each other’s inventions.
